High-desert sun and monsoon moisture are hard on exteriors. We repair the damage, match the texture, and blend the finish — so the fix doesn't show.
An exterior up here works harder than the same wall would in the valley. Intense high-desert UV, monsoon moisture driving at the walls all summer, and real freeze-thaw cycles in winter — siding and stucco take all three, every year. The repair itself is usually straightforward. Making it invisible afterwards is the part that takes craft, and that is the same texture-matching work we are known for indoors.
What we repair outside
- Cracked stucco — from hairline surface cracks up to open cracks that are letting water behind the finish.
- Chips, holes and impact damage — patched, textured to match the surrounding wall, then painted.
- Failing siding — weathered, cracked, warped or rotted boards repaired or replaced and finished to match the rest of the wall.
- Trim, fascia and eaves — the wood that takes the most water and usually goes first.
- Open joints and failed caulking — around windows, doors, corners and anywhere a pipe or fixture penetrates the wall.
- Water-damaged sections — opened up, dried, repaired back to sound material, and closed up properly rather than skinned over.
- Concrete repair — steps, walkways, thresholds, curbs and slab edges, patched back to something solid and safe to walk on.
- Masonry waterproofing and sealing — where it is genuinely the right answer. Often it is not, and we will say so — sealing a wall that is already taking on water can trap it. There is a guide on that.
How an exterior repair goes
The order matters here more than it does inside, because everything outside is a water question:
- Find out why it failedA crack under a leaking gutter and a crack from normal thermal movement look identical and need different work. Patching without answering this just buys a season.
- Cut back to sound materialDamaged stucco or siding is removed until what is left is solid. A patch bonded to a soft edge fails at the edge.
- Repair the substrateWhat is behind the finish gets made right first, so the visible repair has something real to sit on.
- Match the textureThe patch is floated and textured to blend with the existing finish. On stucco this is the whole difference between a repair and a scar.
- Seal, prime and paintJoints caulked, bare material primed, and the finish blended so the color and sheen carry across. New stucco and old stucco drink paint differently, so this step is not optional.
- Walk it with youWe go around the outside together before we load up.
Worth walking your own exterior for
Ten minutes around the outside of the building, twice a year, catches most of this while it is still small:
- Cracks in stucco wide enough to catch a fingernail
- Caulk that has pulled away at window and door edges
- Siding boards that feel soft, or that sound hollow when tapped
- Paint chalking or peeling on south- and west-facing walls
- Staining or streaking below a gutter, valley or roof edge
- Any gap where a pipe, vent or light fixture comes through the wall
