Paint is the last step of a paint job. Most of what decides whether a finish lasts five years or fifteen happens before a brush is opened — washing, scraping, sanding, repairing and priming the surface underneath. That is the part we do not shortcut, and it is the part that separates a repaint that holds from one that peels.
What a paint job with us includes
Every job is quoted individually, but this is the scope you can expect:
- Protection first — furniture moved or covered, floors and fixtures masked, landscaping shielded on exteriors.
- Surface preparation — washing, scraping loose and failing paint, sanding, and feathering edges so old and new meet flat.
- Repairs before paint — drywall cracks, nail pops, and damaged trim fixed and textured to match, because paint does not hide a defect, it highlights it.
- Caulking and sealing — gaps at trim, corners and penetrations sealed so water has nowhere to get in.
- Priming where it is needed — bare substrate, patches, stains and drastic color changes get primed rather than buried under extra coats.
- Cut lines by hand — ceiling lines, trim and corners cut clean.
- Cleanup — the room or property put back the way we found it, minus the old paint.
- Stain and varnish work — doors, trim, cabinetry and exposed timber finished or refinished, where paint is not what the piece wants.
How the work actually goes
No mystery, no crew you have never met turning up:
- We look at it togetherWe walk the property with you, talk through what you want, and check the condition of what is already there. Failing caulk, soft trim or a hairline stucco crack changes the plan, so it is better found now than halfway through.
- You get a written quoteThe scope in plain language so you know exactly what is and is not included.
- Prep dayUsually the longest stage on an exterior, and the one that decides the result. Wash, scrape, sand, repair, caulk, mask, prime.
- PaintApplied in the right conditions. In Yavapai County that means watching surface temperature and the monsoon forecast, not just the calendar.
- Walk it with youWe go around together before we load up. Anything you are not happy with gets handled then, not in a follow-up phone call.
Where paint fails first around here
Worth walking your own property and looking at these — catching them early is the cheap version of the repair:
- South- and west-facing walls, which take the most UV
- Fascia, eaves and window sills, where water sits
- Chalky patches that leave powder on your hand when you rub them
- Hairline cracks in stucco, and open joints at trim
- Anywhere the previous coat is peeling in sheets rather than flaking
